Under the present ahistorical “separation of church and state” model, religious freedom was once again curtailed. The present church and state milieu says religious freedom is restricted where the federal government is involved, and the jurisdiction of the federal government just greatly expanded; thus, the freedom to exercise religious faith ipso jure diminished albeit circuitously so.
Obama Care will grow in its power an involvement of regulating what people can and cannot eat. The argument goes this way, unhealthy food increases disease and disability and therefore costs everyone because we are all in the same healthcare system; thus, it is not fair for everyone to pay for some people’s unwillingness to eat healthy.
Of course, in a free market healthcare system, insurance companies can reward and penalize, and thereby provide incentive without controlling what restaurants, etc., can serve. By the way, this argument is already being made to support national healthcare, but it actually is an argument for the free market and personal responsibility. Each time personal responsibility, which involves freedom to choose to do right or wrong and suffer the consequences, is diminished, so is the culture’s receptivity to the gospel.
Denmark has just imposed the world’s first fat tax. “Starting from this Saturday, Danes will pay an extra 30[pence] on each pack of butter, 8p on a pack of crisps, and an extra 13p on a pound of mince, as a result of the tax.” ((http://jezebel.com/5845452/denmark-imposes-the-worlds-first-fat-tax accessed 10/4/11)) I am sure our federal government is watching with eager anticipation of new found revenue. Each tax not only expands the realm of government, but it also decreases the amount of money Christians have to advance the kingdom.
Although our healthcare system is not perfect, it is not broken either. It is simply the best in the world! That is why people still come to America for healthcare if they can. Obama’s healthcare lauds being compassionate, but it diminishes man as man and that is never compassionate.
